A GARAGE was destroyed in a fire in Saltcoats on Sunday evening.
The blaze took hold on the garage at the back of a house in the town’s Sharphill Road shortly before 8pm on Sunday, May 12 with the road closed as firefighters tackled the ‘well-developed’ fire.
Onlookers heard aerosol cans ‘popping’ loudly as the fire burned just yards from a house and the sound alerted neighbours that a fire had taken hold.
Sharphill Road was closed for around an hour before it was made safe by fire officers at the scene.
Thankfully, nobody was injured as a result.
A spokesman said: “The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted at 7.42pm on Sunday, May 12 to reports of a garage on fire in Saltcoats.
“Operations Control mobilised two fire engines to the town’s Sharphill Road, where firefighters were met by a well-developed fire.
“Crews extinguished the fire and left the scene after ensuring the area had been made safe.
“There were no casualties.”
