Talented senior pupils at James Reid School staged a musical showcase for their parents recently.

Fourth, fifth and sixth year students are currently working towards their SQA National Awards in Music Performance.

The event, organised by the school’s music teacher, Miss Milne, celebrated and showcased what the pupils had learned as part of the qualification.

Parents were invited to the showcase at the Saltcoats school and were entertained by students playing a variety of musical instruments and singing. Pupils played guitar, drums, recorder, keyboard and sang in groups and as soloists.

Performances ranged from traditional Scottish music, current pop songs, tunes from well-known musicals and more.

Mr Babington, principle teacher, at James Reid School, told the Herald: “The kids thoroughly enjoyed it.

“They’ve got to learn various instruments or sing a song as part of their SQA units and part of that is giving a performance.

“A number of kids were playing the drums, a number of kids were singing, one played the keyboard, others played the recorder.

“We were very pleased about the number of parents that turned out as well which was very good. I think the parents were impressed.”
