FOUR Ayrshire drivers paid up almost £2,000 to settle unpaid fines for motoring offences after finding that their bank accounts had been frozen.
They included an Irvine man, who was caught driving while disqualified and without insurance.
He failed to pay fines imposed at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court in September 2017.
But fines enforcement officers took action to have his bank account arrested and the £600 that he owed was recovered.
In addition, an Ardrossan woman was fined at Kilmarnock Justice of the Peace Court for having an unlicensed car and avoided paying the £256 she owed for months until officers secured the money when her bank account was frozen.
Arresting earnings and freezing bank accounts are among a number of measures available to the Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service (SCTS) for recovering unpaid fines.
Enforcement measures include arresting people travelling through ports or airports or taking money from benefits.
