UNASSUMING, in the middle of quiet Saltcoats street, sits one of the best places to eat in the whole of Ayrshire, if not Scotland.

Motherland Spice, an Indian and Nepalese restaurant, was recently named one of the best 15 Indians in the country by our sister paper the Glasgow Herald and it’s not hard to see why.

Owner Madhav has an infectious smile and passionate love for his restaurant and the food they serve there.

A small team of just 12 front and back of house staff makes a recipe for success and a delicious and satisfying experience.

Relaxed decor, comfortable seating and a welcome like no other sets you up for a meal like no other.

High expectations came with the credibility of being named amongst the best in the country but they were met and exceeded.

Starters of Mushroom Pakora and Chicken Poori were followed by a Chicken Tikka Chasni and South Indian Garlic Chilli served with fluffy rice and a peshwari naan bread that looked like it had been fired by the breath of angels.

The curries are rich, full of flavour and not overpowering but Madhav ensures us that there is plenty of spice available for those who want that extra kick.

This restaurant has everything you need and more - even stocking haggis pakora.

If you are in the area or just really fancy a top meal, served by friendly staff in a relaxed atmosphere then Motherland Spice is a must visit.
