JAPANESE knotweed has been found near Ardrossan Castle during the recent Bioblitz in the area.
North Ayrshire Council has said it is aware of the presence of the stubborn weed and Garnock Connections recently offered a free two-day training course to help tackle invasive non-native plant species across the River Garnock area.
Japanese knotweed is notoriously difficult to eradicate, and it is an offence to cause it to grow in the wild.
Elouise Cartner, of Garnock Connections, said: “It is a concern across the landscape and because of this we’re running an invasive plant control training workshop for anyone who might be interested in helping out.”
A council spokesperson added: “We are aware that there is a problem with Japanese Knotweed. We have previously written to the landowner as a courtesy, offering advice.
“However, local authorities have no powers to enforce the treatment of Japanese Knotweed on privately owned land.”
