CHILDREN from Catrine Primary were commended for a crafty cosmic creation made of recycled materials – and the eco-friendly rocket will be displayed at the National Space Centre.
The Mauchline school was awarded a runners-up accolade in the Better Energy School Awards for Excellence in Environmental Education.
Pupils from P4/5 created the eco rocket, which was declared runner-up in the Totally Creative Category for schools in Scotland.
The awards aim to assist and encourage environmental education for young people aged five-11 and promote cross-curricular work on the environment and any work in school.
A spokeswoman from Catrine Primary said: “The children at Catrine created rockets using recyclable materials and LEGO blocks and managed to use a staggering 80 per cent of reusable materials.
“They planned a launch event and presented it to the whole school community.
“Their entry was plucked from 42,000 amazing project to scoop one of the runner-up awards.”
The school will receive £250 as well as a special certificate to mark the achievement. To top it off, the rocket is also on display at the National Space Centre in Leicester for all to see.
