ONE of the Three Towns’ oldest residents celebrated her 105th birthday in style – by taking part in her regular exercise class.

Sarah Henry, who is a resident in Caledonia Care Home, was born on June 13, 1914 and has been a Caledonia resident since December 2, 2010, making her one of the residents who has been there the longest amount of time.

And Sarah absolutely loves her chair exercises, which are delivered by KA Leisure as Janice McAdam from Caledonia Care Home explained. She told the Herald: “When we were approached by KA leisure to see if the home was interested in doing chair exercises at a professional level we jumped at the chance to take this new venture on.

“The residents were keen for this to happen and the classes started and Sarah took to it like a duck to water as did the other residents, especially as we played music while we exercised.

“We have had KA leisure in the home now for about five years now and the residents still enjoy their Thursday exercise class. Sharon is our instructor and she always goes that extra mile to ensure our residents don’t just benefit from the class but they enjoy it as well. From balls to bands, the residents work hard and stay fit.”

KA Leisure said: “Sarah has taken part in the class for over three years and today her daughters joined in having said they find it ‘so inspirational’.

“Sarah came along to class as usual today instead of opening her post – another card from the Queen.”
