Up to 35 new jobs could be created if plans for a £4 million Aldi store in Cumnock are approved.

The planning application for the Ayr Road store will be lodged early next month with East Ayrshire Council.

Aldi is inviting residents and interested parties to attend a public consultation drop-in on Tuesday, June 25.

The event is at Old Cumnock Old Church Hall on Barrhill Road and is open to the public from 2-7pm.

Feedback from the sessions will be included in a consultation report. If given the green light, the store will create up to 35 positions, with roles starting from Aldi’s apprenticeship scheme through to store manager level.

The proposals will also deliver new investment to support the commercial future of the Thistle Business Park North.

Andy Doyle, property director for Aldi in Scotland, said: “We anticipate that our application for an Aldi store in Cumnock and the number of employment opportunities will be welcome news to residents and local businesses. Our preference is always to ensure that we have a local and hardworking store team to serve the local community.”

By the time of opening, the store would become the supermarket’s third store in East Ayrshire with one store already trading in Kilmarnock and a second store shortly due to commence construction in Stewarton.
