THOUSANDS of people flocked to Ayr’s Low Green to celebrate this year’s Holy Fair with Armed Forces day and Pipes in the Park.

Visitors were greeted to a host of activities on the back drop of Ayr beach with the sun also making an appearance.

The day kicked off with a special Armed Forces flag raising ceremony which saw dignitaries and military personnel making their way onto the low green for the start of the festivities.

Stalls from various local charities and groups lined the venue, with revellers enjoying a refreshment at the beer tent also set up.

Other highlights included the Children’s Fun Dog show, a beach volleyball tour with both male and female competitors and a find the golden ball challenge in the Golden Ball Mania. There were smiles all round, as everyone joined in the festival which has been attracting visitors to Ayr for over 30 years.

Councillor Brian McGinley, Economy and Culture Portfolio Holder for South Ayrshire Council said: “The fair grows year on year and is a prime example of the kind of event, South Ayrshire is becoming renowned for. The Holy Fair attracts people from far and wide giving us the opportunity to showcase the best that South Ayrshire has to offer.”
