Guests and local elected members attended the preview of the latest North Ayrshire Open Art Exhibition.

Provost Ian Clarkson officially opened the free exhibition on Friday, July 5 at Racquet Hall in Eglinton Park. Now in its 23rd year, the annual display exhibits the work of professional, local and student artists.

Julia Griffin, exhibition coordinator, said: “We have over 120 exhibiting artists this year. The great thing about the exhibition is that it welcomes submissions from all artists, amateurs and professionals alike.

“The artworks are brilliant and really varied with a mixture of drawing, painting, sculpture and textiles.

“The preview night was a real success and was well attended by submitting artists and their families.

“This year we have 13 raffle prizes to give away which consist of beautiful original paintings and prints. These prizes are available for anyone to win for only £1 per ticket so it's well worth visiting the exhibition, buying some tickets and seeing all the great artwork on show.”

This year's prizewinning artists were: Kelsey Todd – Ayrshire College Prize for ‘Into the Blue’, Stephen McPheator – Buckreddan Prize for ‘Autumns Here’, Colin Mackay – Gallery Eight Prize for ‘The Wave’, Allison Davis – Financial Services Scotland Prize for ‘High Flying Birds’.

The exhibition runs from 10am-4pm every day until Saturday, July 20. Entry is free.
