A NEW book looking at how the town of Saltcoats has changed through the years is available to buy and offers an eye-opening look at the differences through the passage of time.

Written by Hugh Maxwell, the superbly researched book dives in to the varied history of the town including the Salt Pans, summers in the sun, the railways, the harbourside, industry, cinemas and shops throughout the town centre.

Well known Saltcoats names such as Betsy Miller, Harry Kemp, the Cunninghame and Eglinton families are spoken about but the real winner is the pictures from yesteryear.

Some streets and buildings are instantly recognisable, like the Town Hall, St Cuthbert’s Church and Saltcoats Harbour but the hark back to the times gone past opens the year to just how much things have changed over the decades and centuries.

There are a total of 52 photos in the 48 page book and it is priced at £10.95.

The book is available to order direct from www.stenlake.co.uk and will be on sale in branches of WH Smith and at the North Ayrshire Heritage Centre.
