ARDROSSAN South Beach was awash with colour at the weekend as friends and family of little Alfie Curran held a balloon launch to celebrate his life.

Organised by Natalie Smith, the balloon launch took place on Sunday afternoon.

And locals turned out in their droves to show their support following the sad passing of Alfie.

And it was so successful that one balloon vendor ran out of helium and another had upwards of 400 balloons on her ceiling at one point leading up to the launch.

Natalie spoke of her pride about the amount of people who turned out, she said: “I honestly wasn’t sure who would turn up but it shows that he touched so many people.

“I felt so proud and it was so nice to see everyone come together and it was great to see the family on the day, it was a really nice celebration of his life.”

Among the hundreds of people in attendance on Sunday were school friends from James McFarlane.

There were also members of the Butterfly Club and attendees of SW Fitness which Alfie and his mum Donna loved to go along to together.

Natalie added: “There was a sea of colour in the air.

“A massive thank you to all who came along, it was a brilliant tribute and it was lovely to see so many people talking and hugging.”

The Three Towns community have rallied round the Curran family as they mourned their son.

Alfie was laid to rest in a celebration of life ceremony on Monday, July 29 at Clyde Coast and Garnock Valley Crematorium with those in attendance wearing bright colours.

There will also be a football match played in Alfie’s honour and all proceeds will go towards his school, James McFarlane.

The match will take place at Ardeer Juniors Stadium on Friday, August 9, with a kick-off at 6.45pm and gates opening at 6pm.

Entry will be £3, there will be a half-time raffle and the bar will be open for those in attendance to enjoy.

The match will see Bobby’s Bar take on a Crown Inn Select team.
