THE Three Towns Men’s Shed will be remaining at the Focus Centre in Saltcoats for at least another year, it has been revealed.

This comes just a month after the shed spoke of plans for expansion at the old Motor Project in Ardrossan but they will be staying put until at least December of 2020.

The Motor Project premises will now be home to NAC’s Streetscene.

In a letter to members, secretary of the Men’s Shed, Donald McLarty, said that ‘changes in the council’s thinking’ meant that they are staying at the Focus Centre.

All other people and groups who worked within the Saltcoats centre have now moved so the shed hope to expand and make the group more appealing.

They currently have around 60 members and are always looking to expand.

Donald said: “Since almost everyone else has been moved out of the Focus Centre, we will now be able to expand and diversify our activities and do some of the things that we have envisaged as future projects.

“We now have the space for hobbies, small crafts, indeed anything that has been realistically been suggested up till now.”

“All the advantages of the move without the hassle.”

A North Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: “The council and community partners are working together to try to get the best results for our residents. This is a great example of an agreement which suits all parties in the medium term. The Men’s Shed development is a big priority for the council and we will ensure that by working together we can enhance their project.

“Streestcene will occupy the Three Towns Motor Project building for the time being and this will allow partners, including the Men’s Shed, to agree how partners can support the best use of the Motor Project premises at that stage.”
