ARDROSSAN BC made up for the heartbreak in the North Ayrshire Bowling League by picking up the North District Top Ten championship last week.

The side, who had already dispatched of Kilwinning, Irvine Winton, Dalry and Largs Halkshill on their way to the final travelled to Irvine to face a strong Irvine Park side on their own green.

The game started off very tight with little between the sides but as the singles match started, Ardrossan were lifted as Scott Wilson raced into an 11-0 lead. At one point the visitors were winning across the board but this was not how it was to finish as a spirited comeback from Drew Smith saw him defeat Wilson 21-20 to give the Parks the first two points.

Ardrossan’s four, skipped by Ronnie McConnachie, were always in the lead and held out for Ardrossan’s first two points.

The other two games were heading Ardrossan’s way until the triples lost a count of seven in the second last end to set up a nervy finish but as Irvine Park’s Pairs skip Martin Williamson failed to get the five shots required in the final end, the triples knew they had a four shot cushion with only four bowls left to be delivered.

Ardrossan picked up a one and therefore the victory which will see them progress to the Ayrshire semi-finals where they take on Cumnock BC.

The semi-final is this Sunday, August 18 at Troon BC with the winners heading to Auchinleck BC on August 31 for the Ayrshire final.
