Police searching for missing 58-year-old German tourist Valerij Tomarenko are appealing for information after his car was found at Ardrossan Ferry Terminal.

Sergeant Allison McIntyre of Saltcoats Police Office, said: “Extensive inquiries are ongoing to trace Valerij who was last in contact with his family on Wednesday 14 August 2019, when he was staying at accommodation in Springburn, Glasgow.

“His hire car, a silver Hyundai i10 with the registration number EG68 FHA was seen heading south on the M77 towards Ayr on Thursday 15 August 2019.

"Officers carried out numerous enquiries to trace the vehicle in Ayrshire, and it was found at Ardrossan ferry terminal last night.

“We believe that the car arrived at the terminal on Thursday morning and that Valerij got on the ferry to Arran. He may have planned to go hillwalking there and searches and enquiries are being carried out on Arran to trace him.”
