A TEENAGER has been arrested in connection with car vandalism which have allegedly caused around £50,000 worth of damage.

Last week police in North Ayrshire appealed for information about incidents in Saltcoats and residents took to social media to highlight that cars had been targeted in early morning vandalism incidents.

Sources told the Herald that damage caused by the incidents could be as much as £50,000 and that police managed to trace a 17-year-old who was then arrested and they are trying to trace another teenager in connection with these incidents.

A spokesman for Police Scotland told the Herald: “A 17-year-old male was arrested in connection with a number of vandalisms to cars in the Hilton Court and Hogarth Avenue areas of Saltcoats around 2pm on Friday, August 16.

“Enquiries continue to trace a further male involved.”

Inspector Colin Convery of Saltcoats Police Office said: “This incident disgusts me, that individuals could do such damage with a complete disregard for the owners of the cars. Anti-social behaviour like this has a detrimental impact on local communities not to mention the financial costs to victims.
