A business owner in West Kilbride has blasted a decision to close three roads in the village.
The resident, who wished to remain anonymous, described the closure of Main Street, Portencross Road and Hunterston Road as “utter chaos”.
She said: “The village is cut off with roadworks. The only way people can access the village is along the A78 past the Waterside Hotel up Chapelton Road then Meadowford Road then up to the village that way.
“There’s lorries trying to deliver. It’s utter chaos. At the moment we’re struggling for business. They should have had one road shut at a time, not all three. It’s absolute nonsense. We knew it was going to be bad but not this bad. It beggars belief. Common sense has gone out the window.”
A spokesman from North Ayrshire Council said: “These were surface dressing works which were weather dependant. The contractors had a short weather window to complete across a number of locations. The roads were closed for short durations and open to traffic around noon.”
