LENSMAN and scribe Ross Mackenzie has put a fascinating book together on his beloved Kilwinning Rangers.

Titled Kilwinning Rangers - The Glory Years and Beyond, the new publication is well worth a read.

Kilwinning man Ross said: “Having been involved with the club for the last 20 years as programme editor, photographer and fundraiser I felt that the highs and lows of the last couple of decades was a story worth telling.”

The 152-page book, due out in the next few weeks, mainly concentrates on the trophy-laden years but also pays tribute to a number of people who helped the club during the hard times.

It includes exclusive interviews with former players and managers as well as numerous never before published photographs chronicling the last 25 years.

Among those who talk are double-treble winning manager Bobby Dickson and his predecessor Jim McSherry, Scottish Junior Cup Final goalscorer Gerry Peline and team-mates Allan McLuckie and Alan McTurk, along with chairman Allan McLuckie Snr.

Ross, an authority on the Buffs, said: “It was great catching up with these guys as they had a lot of interesting things to say.

“The book has taken three months for me to do and I have really enjoyed being involved in it.

“I would say it would especially appeal to people who remember the team from the 1990s, they will have great memories of that time.”

Achievements of the team in 1999, winning six trophies is highlighted.

Added Ross: “They were an exceptional team who enjoyed a lot of success.”

The book also focuses on the 1994 West of Scotland Cup win at Somerset Park, masterminded by former Ayr and Killie ace McSherry, which was almost a starting point for the success that followed, in addition to honours won post 1999.

The cost is £20 and pre-orders are currently being taken.
