A Garnock Valley dance school has enjoyed massive success on an international level.

Off the Chart School of Performing Arts took home several awards at the World Lyrical Dance Federation Championships in Stratford Upon Avon earlier this month.

The three-day event, which saw competitors from all over the world, concluded with the chance to perform on the famous stage at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.

Girls from Off the Chart, aged six to 21, beat off stiff competition from countries as far away as South Africa to bring home several trophies.

Among the success for the Dalry-based dance school was an Under 16s World Champion title for 14-year-old Beth Hay of Kilbirnie.

Participation in the championships for the girls follows two years of qualifying competitions all over the UK and Ireland.

Tutor Gillian McMillan said that she was “incredibly proud of all the hard work that the girls all put in”.?

She added: “The girls took on dancers from all over the UK, Ireland, Iceland and South Africa and brought home the silverware.

“Morgan Smith, 17 from Dalry, was ninth in Lyrical. Carolyn Mackie, 12 from Kilbirnie, was third in Jazz. Eilidh MacDonald, 21 from Dalry, was fifth in Lyrical, and Beth Hay, 14 from Kilbirnie, did the double by being third for Jazz and is the Under 16 Level 2 World Champion.

“Beth can now say she is the Five Nations, Scottish and World Lyrical Champion.

“All the other girls in the school have done exceptionally well this year at all the competitions they attend every month.

“Ava Hume, eight, from Kilbirnie, is the double Scottish Champion in Jazz and Lyrical Improvisation, and Demi Carswell, nine from Irvine, is the Northern Irish Improvisation Champion, to name but a few of the titles the dancers hold.”

Off the Chart School of Performing Arts is now entering its 29th year and has classes in Dalry, Kilbirnie and Irvine. Visit https://www.facebook.com/offthechart1/ for more information.
