A THIEVING yob has smashed his way in to an Ardrossan DIY shop and stolen £1,200-worth of goods.

The thief struck in the DIY Plus store in Harbour Place during the early hours of Monday, September 16, smashing the front window with a brick before ransacking the shop for goods to steal.

Owner Roger Woods, who captured the shocking raid on CCTV, is appealing for anyone who knows him to report him to police.

He told the Herald: “He has came in through the shop front window. He has just chucked a brick through it and smashed it and came in.

“The CCTV shows him rummaging about the shop. He has pulled out loads of bags and just filled them with whatever he could get his grubby hands on.

“We think he has stolen about £1,200-worth of goods and the chances of us recovering that are probably none.”

Roger says watching the mindless thief has left him “sickened”.

He said: “It’s just so disheartening because we have just taken out one of these nice new units to start up a business in the town and this is what happens.

“It’s sickening to watch him on the CCTV. You can actually see people passing and cars driving by and the alarm was going off and no one stopped him or called the police. We had to find out on Monday morning when we came to open up.”

Police say no one has been arrested but they are appealing for information.

A spokesman for Ayrshire Police Division said: “At about 8am on Monday, September 16 police were notified of a possible housebreaking at a commercial premises on Harbour Place, Ardrossan.

“Police attended and spoke with staff, enquiries revealed the premises had been broken in to, enquiries are continuing to identify those responsible.

“If you can provide any information that could help in the enquiry please contact Saltcoats Police Office on 101 quoting incident number 0568 of the 16th.”
