A NEW Spanish-style tapas bar in West Kilbride was given the go-ahead this week.

A Provisional Premises Licence was granted on Monday to open the Cita Tapas bar and restaurant in the former station building.

The bar on the former Chu Chu’s site would serve breakfasts from 9am, and alcohol 11am-12am Sunday to Wednesday and 11am-1am Thursday to Saturday.

It will also include outside seating, hold receptions, play music and host live performances.

At North Ayrshire’s Licensing Board, Managing director Chris McMail said: “Over the years the station building in West Kilbride has been used for various purposes, in its last form running as a restaurant named Chu Chus, but after closing its doors has lay empty ever since.

“We have a vision to bring this important historic building back to life and make it a focal point for the community.

“We plan to refurbish the run down station building and open it as a contemporary wine and tapas bar.

“West Kilbride has a vibrant community but definite lack of quality eating places beyond the established Seamill Hydro Hotel and Seamill House Hotel.

“Children will be allowed on the premises from 9am to 10pm if with an adult for a meal, however no one under 18 will be allowed within one-metre of any bar.”

With no amendments the Provisional Premises Licence was granted.
