LITTLE book worms of Beith Primary School donned fancy dress in their library event for Roald Dahl Day.

The kids celebrated the occasion on Friday, September 13 by enjoying their favourite tales by the famous children’s author.

Some of the school’s pupils got creative with their costumes and used them to pay tribute to some of the writer’s famous stories.

A couple of young ones dressed up as characters from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory where they waved their self-made golden tickets on the day.

Another dressed as the BFG, while others sported the Enormous Crocodile. Staff also joined in the fun dressing as Oompa Loompas from the Chocolate Factory.

Kids also brought in their own recipes in tribute to tales such as The Twits where they’d show off their beards made of jelly snakes.

The Roald Dahl Day event runs also to encourage reading and literacy to pupils in the school.

Agnes Kennedy from Beith Primary said it was a very successful day: “Everybody had a great time”, she said. “The kids all dressed up and took part as some of Roald’s characters, and wearing yellow, his favourite colour. Some wore odd socks too which he also liked to do.

“There were different games and activities and it is always picked up well. Some of us come in to read parts of the books to children and it’s a huge push on the literacy side of things as well.”
