FOLLOWING a minor success at a recent UK-wide backgammon tournament held in York, Jules Smith, who runs a couple of local clubs now wants to increase players across Ayrshire with the formation of a new club to be called ‘Backgammon Ayr’.
Often referred to as “the cruellest game” because of the element of luck (or bad luck) brought by each throw of the dice, the South Ayrshire team from York comprised players from Maybole, Ayr, Troon and Irvine and regularly meet on Tuesday mornings (in Maybole) and afternoons (in Ayr).
