MORE than 300 pupils and others across the Doonfoot community put their best feet forward.

Doonfoot Primary School held a sponsored walk just before the September Weekend holiday towards the town to help support school projects.

They look set to raise around £1,000 from what was an impressive effort.

The money will go towards an outdoor learning programme which is being developed by the school which will result in the creation of garden plots to be looked after by pupils.

Head Teacher Caroline Connell was delighted with how things went.

She said: “We did walks which ranged from half -a-mile to three miles. Some involved going to County Buildings and others Ayr India. In the past we have gone separate ways but this is the first time we have all gone in the same direction. We are lucky to be close to so many attractions.

“We have a railway walk, river walk and also are close to the beach and have to make the most of these and make use of them.

“Aside from pupils, we had parents and staff taking part in the walk. We’re trying to encourage creativity and also to develop a good community partnership.

“Thanks to everyone for supporting the walk, it went really well and everyone seemed to enjoy it.”
