THE empty hostel in Saltcoats will be replaced by flats for the elderly, the Herald can exclusively reveal.
The former Quarrier’s and Simon Community hostel officially closed its doors at the end of July but now plans are being worked on between owners Cunninghame Housing Association and North Ayrshire Council to transfer the building into 11 flats for older residents.
It will take a number of months for plans to be drawn up but it is expected that the renovation will be included in plans to be revealed by the council next month.
Chief Executive of Cunninghame Housing Association, Frank Sweeney, told the Herald: “We have agreed with North Ayrshire Council to include this building in plans and we already have a design team looking at it.
“In all probability it will be between nine and 11 flats for the elderly in the Three Towns.”
