An 85-year-old woman had to be taken to Crosshouse after a car smash in Saltcoats.

Police and fire crews attended the crash on High Road near to the North Parish Church on Tuesday after noon.

One car involved had to have its roof cut off by the fire service.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "At 3.10pm on Tuesday, October 16 police received reports of a two-car road traffic collision on Sharphill Road, Saltcoats.

"Police attended along with other emergency services and an 85-year-old female was extracted from one of the vehicles involved and conveyed to Crosshouse Hospital for treatment in an ambulance.

"At this time her injuries are not believed to be serious."
