A DALRY family business is in the running to be named ‘Best Takeaway’ after it was shortlisted for a national accolade.
Zains Curry House is one of five venues to be shortlisted in the Scotland category in the British Takeaway Awards.
The nomination is another boost for the multi-award-winning takeaway, which last year scooped two gongs at the Scottish Asian Food Awards.
Owner, Khurum Jabbar, told the Herald: “It’s a crazy feeling, especially going to the big ones [awards] in London. To be in the top five is an amazing feeling. The main judge is Ainslie Harriot, so to have one of the big-time chefs giving their opinion is amazing.
“We’ve been in Dalry for 18/19 years. We started our journey a year ago. I sat down with the team and said I want to change the takeaway game and after that the team took everything on board and they just gave me back so much. I wouldn’t be able to do it without them. I’ve got a fantastic team behind me and great customers; it’s an amazing feeling.”
When asked how he would feel if Zains won, Khurum replied: “It would just be a brilliant feeling; it would take my business to a next level. It would be good for the community. For the last awards we put Dalry on the map. We got people from all over the country coming down.”
