A care home and an undertaker have come to the rescue of a Stevenston family who were struggling to pay for the funeral of their late dad.

Arran View Care Home a nd Kevin T Blade s Funeral Directors stepped in to help relatives of Ronnie Jeffrey after the Herald reported they desperately needed £1,000 to give him a proper send-off.

After Ronnie passed away at Arran View, his family set up a Go Fund Me page to raise funeral costs. But after the Herald’s report, staff at the home had some good news for Ronnie’s family – the late grandad had left money in in their care.

And Kevin T Blades, funeral director, has offered two of his company’s limousines. The family will now donate any funds raised to a charity.

Daughter, Siobhan Leighton said: “My mum has realised just how much people cared about my dad and how he will not be forgotten.

“Now we have two cars to take us there and that means my dad can be seen in our street for neighbours to say goodbye.

“I want to thank all the [Arran View] staff for the amazing work that they do every day and night. They were there for my dad when he needed help the most. My dad was a big fan of Elvis so sometimes the staff would bring him in little Elvis things for his room.

“To all the people who kindly donated money to the fund, thank you so much. It just shows that there are some lovely caring people out there and that the community still helps each other out in their time of need. It’s amazing to see and we’re so overwhelmed with just how much support we received.”
