As many as 50 people are to lose their jobs just before Christmas at Hargreaves' House of Water site in New Cumnock, the Chronicle understands.
A source contacted the Chronicle to inform us that “around 40 to 50 men” were being made redundant at the coal mining site.
The news comes just a year after the Chronicle reported that the company had reassured employees at the New Cumnock facility that jobs were safe, despite rumours of redundancies.
A spokesperson from Hargreaves confirmed this week that the company had to “make the extremely disappointing decision to start a consultation process” with employees at the House of Water mine.
