A KIND-HEARTED student has raised cash for an invaluable service for life-limiting illness sufferers.
Sophie Conway, 19, who studies at Ayrshire College, donated £439.35 to Ayrshire Hospice.
The food and beverage service student, from Ardrossan, held a Hallowe’en themed coffee morning at the college’s Salt and Barrel restaurant at the end of October.
For a donation of £2.50, guests were treated to a tea or coffee and a selection of homemade cakes baked by college students. There was also a raffle for a hamper.
Martin Quigley, from the Ayrshire Hospice, was in the college last week to receive the cheque from Sophie.
Sophie said: “I didn’t think we’d raise as much money as we did. I asked one of my lecturers if she would help me organise it in the restaurant and, as it was around Hallowe’en time, I decided to theme the morning around that.
“It wasn’t part of my course, I just wanted to do something for a local charity.”
Sarah Marshall, hospitality lecturer at the college, said: “It has been a joy seeing Sophie’s confidence grow so much since she began her studies, and to have her now organising and carrying out such a successful event is just the icing on the cake.”
