THE 3rd Ardrossan Brownies completed a wellbeing workshop on body image this month.

The ‘My Body My Way’ wellbeing programme was developed by leading mental health charity Penumbra and explores what body image is, explains what influences our body image and promotes positive body image and wellbeing.

Kerry Elliott, the 3rd Ardrossan Brownies Leader and Peer Worker for mental health charity Penumbra, said: “Over the three weeks, the girls learnt about what body image and self-esteem was and the factors that influence the way people see themselves, including social media. The girls spoke about the size of clothes where some felt that the ages on clothes weren’t good with making girls feel good about themselves, especially with most girls not wearing the size of clothes for their age range.

Some of the Brownies themselves commented on what they had learned.

Hollie Davis said: "We have learnt to give compliments and to love yourself even if you don’t wear make-up.”

Ruby McKeaveney said: “We have learnt about body image. My favourite thing was people talking about my skin”

Jessica Wallace said: “Body image is very important because you need it to protect everyone and the planet and it was very fun learning about it.”
