A couple have been left heartbroken after their missing puppy was found dead.

Sarah and Graeme Wilkinson, of Ardrossan, had been searching for being beloved pooch, Nala, since Friday last week, November 29.

This morning the 14-month-old Labrador Spaniel cross was found on Stevenston beach, but had already passed away.

A post on the Find Nala social media page said: “Words can’t express how much Nala’s mum, dad, family and friends will miss her.

“She was the smartest, friendliest puppy who loved people and made our family complete. We will have her in our hearts forever.

“We want to thank everyone who has helped in any way with our search. Your kind words and generosity, giving up your time to help find Nala, kept us going through this upsetting time.

“We are devastated that we weren’t able to bring Nala home.”

Nala went missing at 7pm on Friday, November 29 having been startled by the fireworks at the Stevenston Christmas lights switch-on.

The couple were offering a £1,500 reward for her safe return.

People of the Three Towns had helped in the search as well as Animal Search UK’s Pet Detective Team who were carrying out a search today.
