Police have issued a warning following the theft of two cars in Kilwinning.

Sometime overnight between Wednesday, December 4 and Thursday, December 5, a purple coloured Nissan Pulsar and a white coloured Skoda Octavia were stolen from an address in Annanhill Place in Kilwinning.

The vehicles were stolen using their keys, which were near to the front door of the home where the theft occurred.
Detective Constable Scott Hendry at Saltcoats said: "It appears that the true keys for both these cars were used to steal them, and the keys were located near to the front door of the house.

"It is not believed that the door was unlocked however we are not ruling this out, and are considering all possibilities. Enquiries into these thefts are ongoing and door to door enquiries are underway.

"I would like to hear from anyone who may have had any suspicious callers over the past week or so and perhaps didn't think much of the visit at the time. I would also be keen to hear from anyone who may have any CCTV footage of any suspicious callers at their door recently.

"I would ask the public to be vigilant at this time and think about both the security of their homes and their vehicles.

"Christmas is a time when we are all busy and it can be all too easy to let our guard slip in relation to security. Thieves know this and will take any opportunity they come across to exploit a lapse in security, be it at your home or with your vehicle.

"Take care and be security wise this Christmas. Double check cars are locked and nothing of value is left in view, and please ensure you secure your homes, locking doors and do not leave keys within easy access."

The Herald previously reported that local man, James Stevens, witnessed someone behaving suspiciously in the area and contacted police.

Mr Stevens was leaving for work at around 4am when he claims he saw a man try the handles of houses and vehicles on Glenbervie Drive and Turnberry Court in Kilwinning early Wednesday morning.
