The Ayrshire College Student Association is reminding its female students that the college is now dispensing free sanitary products at all campuses, as part of a national period poverty campaign.

The Student Association’s ‘Periods R Pants’ campaign aims to promote the use of sustainable sanitary products, with Ayrshire College Student Association Vice President Lauren Howieson setting up a stall at each main campus to distribute the products and talk to students about the initiative.

Lauren was joined by Hey Girls at the Kilmarnock Campus on Wednesday, December 11 to launch the campaign. Hey Girls is a social enterprise that provides advice and guidance about sustainable period products to the public sector and provide sustainable products at a reduced cost.

Sanitary products will now be available to pick up from every public toilet at all Ayrshire College campuses.

Lauren said: “The event went brilliantly.

“It’s all about making students aware that the college is offering free sanitary products, as so many people could benefit from this. A lot of students were interested in this new initiative at the Kilmarnock Campus, and I’m looking forward to spreading the word at the Ayr and Kilwinning campuses too.”
