Residents are being reminded to check their bin collection arrangements for over the festive period.

That’s because the Christmas and New Year bank holidays will bring changes to some waste and recycling collection services across the area.

However, only those households whose bin collections fall on a Wednesday or Thursday will be affected.

For all other households, the collection service will continue on the normal days – although the actual time of collections may vary, particularly if adverse weather affects the area.

The revised timetable for mainland and Cumbrae over the festive period is: if your bin was due to be collected on Christmas Day, it will be collected on Saturday, December 21, if it was Boxing Day, it will Sunday, December 22 and the following week if your bin was due to be lifted on New Year’s Day, it will be December 28 and if it was January 2 it will be December 29.

Additionally, North Ayrshire’s Household Waste Recycling Centres will be closed on 25 and 26 December and 1 and 2 January.

They will open as normal out with these dates.

Special uplifts will stop on Friday, December 20 and can be requested again week commencing Monday, January 6.

Large flat packed cardboard boxes can be placed next to your blue bin on the day of your collection over the festive period.

The council’s refuse teams will also collect real Christmas trees that are in sections of five feet or less.
