A DISABLED man has had his Christmas wasted after a selfish yob stole his wheelchair before ‘taking it for a joyride and dumping it’.

Daymien Sim from Irvine, who suffers from cerebral palsy, was gutted after a thug nicked his chair in Stevenston on Monday, December 16.

The 23-year-old was forced to leave it outside his friend’s house because of the stairs when the thief saw the sickening opportunity.

Now he has been left ‘anxious’ and is relying on his crutches which don’t offer him the same ‘stability’ and ‘mobility’ he is used to.

Daymien will have to wait weeks before he even gets an appointment to be measured for a new wheelchair.

His last one cost around £1,195 which he can’t afford to fork out right during the festive season.

It means he is left struggling and had his Christmas wasted thanks to the disgraceful thug but a fundraising page has been set up to raise £1,500 and you can donate here.

Daymein told the Herald: “It’s amazing how someone would want to steal a wheelchair, what use is it to someone able to walk?

“It’s not like they need it, they thought ‘aw we will take it for a joyride and dump it somewhere’.

“I was at my friends house and left it outside like I always do because he has stairs.

“It took a few minutes for me to realise what had happened, I just thought ‘where’s my chair went’ I couldn’t believe it.

“It made me feel angry.

“I have cerebral palsy so I can’t walk long distances, only a wee bit.

“This will affect my day to day life.

“My last one cost around £1,195. I am on a waiting list now.

“I’ve got my crutches in the meantime but getting around just depends on the ground surface, this time of year can be slippy.

“I never had any problems before I think I was just unlucky yesterday, now I will need to wait till next year most likely.

“Maybe someone could find it and give it back, but I’m not hopeful.

“It has made me anxious.

“I want a tracker for the replacement when I get it, I shouldn’t have to do that but it could happen again.

“Once I get a clinic appointment they will measure it up and I will get a new one.”

His sister Kayleigh Sim said: “My disabled brother’s wheelchair has been stolen from outside a house in Stevenson.

“Can everyone keep an eye out and share [what happened] to try get his wheel chair back.”

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "We can confirm that we have received a report regarding the theft of an electric wheelchair from outside a house in Hyslop Road, Stevenston on Monday, December 16, and our enquiries are continuing.

"Anyone with information should contact Irvine Police Station through 101 quoting reference number 3049 of 16th December."
