MOTORIST’S in Saltcoats have been left furious by a large pothole that cuts across a busy road in the town centre.

The ditch has led to issues for some drivers with one claiming it burst their tyre and another claiming it cost them £200 to fix repairs.

Now the council have jumped into action after residents voiced concerns over the hazardous hole that is catching commuters by surprise as they turn onto the road.

The hazardous obstacle on Chapelwell Street at the bottom of Hamilton Street is on the main route towards town centre shops and car parks

They said: “Has anyone else hit this hole in the road at the bottom of Hamilton street/Chapelwell Street in Saltcoats?

“This is just beside the Crown Pub as you turn left at the bottom of Hamilton Street. I’ve been driving for 15 years and this is the worst hole in the road I’ve ever hit, you don’t see it as you are turning the corner as it appears in the road. I am absolutely disgusted with this being left like this and from talking to others after having hit it, it has been like this for more than a week?”

“Has anyone else had any issues with this said hole in the road? Pictures do not do it justice. Absolutely raging.”

Another claimed it had burst his tyre, they added: “I hit it on Friday morning, and it burst my tyre.”

Other motorists hit out at the existence of the hole which is causing problems on dark nights.

The Herald approached North Ayrshire Council for a comment, and they confirmed they will investigate the ditch.
