More than 250 Kilwinning landlines went down this week after an underground cable became damaged.

BT Openreach say investigations are ongoing to establish the cause of the fault - with some residents broadband services also affected - and hope they will be fixed by the end of today (Thursday, December 18)

A BT Openreach spokesperson said: "Engineers are in the final stages of repairing damage to an underground cable which left around 260 Kilwinning homes without phone services on Monday. Some broadband services were also affected.

"It’s time-consuming work as each pair of wires used for each line needs to be individually repaired and tested. We hope the final lines will be reconnected by close of play today.

"Investigations are ongoing to establish the root cause of the damage and we’re really sorry for the disruption."
