A DISABLED man has had his Christmas saved after fearing the worst when a sick lowlife stole his wheelchair.

Daymien Sim from Irvine ‘has a smile on his face again’ after Mobility Matters in Kilmarnock offered him a wheelchair over the festive period.

It comes after the 23-year-old was left gutted when a yob took his ‘electric wheelchair for a joyride and dumped it' in Stevenston.

He had been at a friends house when the criminal swiped it behind his back, taking his independence with it.

Daymien thought he would be forced to rely on his crutches which ‘don’t give him as much mobility’ and would leave him struggling over Christmas.

But now selfless staff at Mobility Matters have stepped in giving him a loan of a wheelchair till he can save up for one of his own.

Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald:

He now is excited for the holidays again and has ‘his freedom back’ now that he can get the bus himself.

Daymien said: “I can't thank Mobility Matters in Kilmarnock enough for their amazing help in providing me with a temporary wheelchair for the time being.

“Without them I don't know what I would have done throughout Christmas and New Year they were brilliant in supporting my needs.

“Anyone needing mobility products please go here you won't regret it thank you so much to them I finally now have a smile on my face and can look forward to a happier Christmas until I get my new one sorted out.

“It feels amazing now that I have the freedom to get on the bus.”

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "We can confirm that we have received a report regarding the theft of an electric wheelchair from outside a house in Hyslop Road, Stevenston on Monday, December 16, and our enquiries are continuing.

"Anyone with information should contact Irvine Police Station through 101 quoting reference number 3049 of 16th December."
