A SALTCOATS lad is desperate to dance his way to a American cheerleading competition.

Dean Jackson wants to represent Scotland in Florida’s International cheer union this April.

The 16-year-old has ‘devoted his entire life’ to dance after it gave him a way to express himself.

Although he has mastered the kicks, flips, splits, and other impressive moves he needs help making the journey over seas.

He is hoping to raise enough cash for his kits and flights out to the USA so he can make Saltcoats and Scots proud.

The teenager, who attends Ardrossan Academy, also has plans to jet out to Verona for the European cheer union next year.

Dean said: “It would be so amazing if I could go, I have devoted my whole life to dance to get to go to one of the most prestigious competition in the world would mean so much.

“For me dancing is a way I get to show my emotions and what I am feeling.

“I get to use my body as art and I wish I could feel the joy I feel dancing all the time.

“Scotland needs to put it’s best foot forward to get close to medalling and I want to be part of that.”

Dean’s mum Gillian Jackson is rooting for her son and wants to help him make the trip.

She has been helping him fundraise so he can follow his dreams.

Gillian said: “I am trying to raise some funds to help my 16 year old son get to Florida in April to represent Scotland in dance.

“He has been dancing for the past 10 years and it is his passion in life.

“If anyone would like to help him on his way we would be very grateful.

“This boy has literally worked so hard every single day and is now seeing the rewards and following his dreams

“Dean started dancing when he was about six years old, it’s his whole world.

“He is part of team spirit, senior jazz, and senior pop,

“They go over there and compete against other countries in America like Japan and Mexico.

“He’s hoping he can get a career in dancing one day and wants to go represent Scotland.”
