Ayrshire Maternity Unit’s Neonatal Unit (NNU) has received a cash boost following generous donations from two grateful former patients.

Kerys Hamilton and Rebecca Hounson donated hundreds of pounds between them to the Neonatal Unit as a way of saying thank you to the staff for their amazing treatment.

Kerys raised £300 through her photography work, donating an amazing £40 from every £50 made. She donated the money as a thank you for the care her child received five years ago in the unit.

Rebecca raised £150 through running the Ayr Go Festival 10k race in October.

Rebecca was a premature twin baby at 1lb 10oz and her brother was born at 2lbs. Rebecca sadly lost her twin brother when he was 9-years-old but had always wanted to show her appreciation to staff who help save tiny lives.

Caroline Blake, clinical midwife manager neonatal services, said: “We’d like to say a huge thanks to Kerys and Rebecca. Their donation will be greatly appreciated by the families who will benefit from it.”
