A LOCAL historian has donated sales from his latest book to the Garnock Valley Disibility Forum.

Author, Donald L Reid gave £3,000 in royalties from his best-selling local book, Garnock Valley Tales - A Keek into Our Past to delighted members of Garnock Valley Disability Forum at their festive dinner held in Barrmill Community Centre on December 19.

Jean Gilbert MBE, secretary of the Forum said: “Our members are absolutely over-the-moon at the kindness of Donald L Reid and Barrmill Jolly Beggars presenting our group with this whopping cheque for £3,000 from royalties arising from sales of Donald’s book which was only published in November 2019. We are truly grateful and this amount will make a real difference to the Disability Forum to help with our planned events and outings during 2020.”

Donald said:”When I was researching this book I gave some thought to which local group or groups might benefit. I have been a supporter of this wonderful group for over 30 years. I decided that because they work so hard to raise funds for their many and varied activities, I would donate all book royalties to them. I never quite expected that the book would be so popular, but it was a delight to be able to give them £3,000 in the run-up to Christmas.

“Thanks also to everyone who has bought the book and I’m sure they will agree that the recipient group this time round is indeed very worthy.”
