A PENSIONER has died in Saltcoats after concerns were raised for her well-being.

An 80-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene at a property on Argyle Road on Saturday afternoon.

Police received a call of concern for the woman and another elderly woman’s wellbeing around 1.15pm.

Emergency services rushed to the property, with an air ambulance spotted at The Glebe near to the street.

Fire crews attended after it was feared there could be a gas leak.

Officers have confirmed the sad news that the woman was pronounced dead and a second woman, a 93-year-old, was taken to hospital.

The tragic death is not been treated as suspicious.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland told the Herald: "Emergency services were called to a property on Argyle Road in Saltcoats around 1.15pm on Saturday, January 11 following a concern call for two people.

“An 80-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

“A 93-year-old woman was taken to hospital."
