A NEW recreational volleyball session is being launched. .

As part of the West Region Dig It programme there will be a number of drop-in volleyball sessions across the West region aimed at attracting people back to the sport whilst also supporting anyone interested in trying it for the first time.

The first session starts in a little over a week in conjunction with KA leisure in North Ayrshire.

It will be held on a Wednesday, January 29, between 7pm and 8pm at the KA Campus, St Matthews Academy, Saltcoats and the first week is free, thereafter for a fee of just £2.50 weekly.

Blair Pettigrew, SVA regional development officer for the West, said: “I am really excited about rolling out the Dig It programme, and I am actively looking for clubs and local authorities to get involved.

“I am hopeful we can increase the number of poeple playing to this level so I can reintroduce a recreational league amongst the local authorities in the west.

“I would love to encourage anyone interested to come along and get involved.”

Stephen Browning, senior community sport officer for KA Leisure, added: “We are delighted to be the first provider to sign up to this exciting new recreational volleyball programme.

“Volleyball is a very popular game in North Ayrshire with nearly every secondary school playing on a regular basis.

“Adding it into our community provision makes perfect sense and we are already looking at adding a second venue.”

This Dig It session requires no booking or specialist equipment and is open to all aged 14 and over.
