CHART-topping Scottish singer KT Tunstall rocked Ayr Town Hall on Wednesday with an electric concert as part of her Lil Live tour of the country, writes Stewart McConnell.

But before hitting the high notes the Fifer showed her versatility by cooking up a storm the kitchen.

She teamed up with former Masterchef the Professionals winner Gary Maclean to cook a meal for some of the guests, featuring haggis and bacon, potatoes and butter.

Many of the guests enjoyed her food although the singer, back in the fold after taking some time out, joined she had no plans to sign up for Celebrity Masterchef any time soon.

It was not her first time in Ayr.

She explained: “I got together with James Cosmo for a short film called Carried which I am really excited about and hasn’t come out.

“I look forward to seeing it when it comes out.

The Ayr gig was the most successful of the Lidl four-venue tour.

She said:” The Ayr concert sold out first and the ticket sales and bar sales are going to the STV Children’s Appeal which is a great cause.

“Thanks to the fans for coming along.”

She is already creating new material, fans will be delighted to know.”

“I’m working on an album which is the third part of a trilogy and that should be released next year.

“I’m quite excited about that.”

The four-venue tour was organised to mark the opening of the 100th Lidl store in Cowdenbeath and KT added: “The crowd were great and seemed to enjoy the show.”

Among the songs performed in an impressive 75-minute show were breakthrough song Black Horse and the Cherry Tree, Other Side of the World, covers of Perfect by Fairground Attraction, featuring Irvine legend Eddi Reader, with Suddenly I see in the finale.

Relishing the opportunity to return to her roots, the star has found time for the evening concerts in a busy schedule between supporting pop rock duo Hall & Oates at Madison Square Gardens and joining 80’s legend Rick Astley’s UK tour in the Spring.

From Kirkwall to Stranraer, Lidl has become known for its high market penetration in rural towns.

Celebrating its 25-year anniversary in the country this year, the retailer is committed to investing in local producers and has built a network of 60 Scottish suppliers creating over 430 Scotland-made products for its stores.
