UNIVERSITY West of Scotland have issued advice to Ayr students after the outbreak of the deadly Coronavirus in China.

The University say they are 'monitoring' the situation but have asked any staff and students who are travelling to or returning from the affected areas to pay 'close attention' to national guidance.

A spokesperson from UWS, told the Advertiser: “The University is continuing to monitor the situation in line with guidance from the Foreign & Commonwealth Office and other relevant agencies and ongoing advice is being provided to our staff and students.”

It comes as eleven people in Scotland were tested for the Coronavirus, with each of the patients given the all-clear.

The current risk to the UK population has been assessed as low as China tries to contain the virus which started in the city of Wuhan.

Nearly 6,000 people have been diagnosed with the virus, with 132 confirmed to have died. 

UWS issued advice on their health and being section of their website advising anyone who has returned from Wuhan to stay indoors. 

A statement reads: “Anyone who has recently travelled to Wuhan City should stay indoors and avoid contact with other people for 14 days from the date of return, and call NHS 24 on 111 to inform them of your recent travel to the city.”

"Anyone returning from elsewhere in China who becomes unwell within 14 days of that visit, particularly with respiratory symptoms, should contact their GP or call NHS 24 on 111."
