THE MUM of Kilwinning’s ‘Wee Warrior’ has organised a fundraising ball to raise money for charities who helped her son win his fight against five brain tumours.

Senga Crighton is hosting a Warrior Ball in the Riverside Lodge Hotel in Irvine on September 25 to raise money for The Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity and Calum’s Cabins.

The mum-of-two’s decision to organise the ball comes after watching son Kieran, 14, fight brain cancer.

The schoolboy was diagnosed with a rare form of Medulloblastoma in March 2018.

Following the devastating diagnosis Kieran underwent surgery to have the biggest tumour removed.

However the surgery left the 14-year-old unable to walk, speak or swallow after having the tumour cut out.

Despite his challenges, the amazing teenager has amazed medics with his spirit and determination.

Now Senga is determined to give back to the two charities who helped the family through the worst days of Kieran’s illness.

The Glasgow Hospital Children’s Charity works to ensure that both children who are struck down with illnesses and their families are well looked after during their time in hospital.

Calum’s Cabins was set up in memory of 12-year-old Calum Spiers who died after being diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour. The charity provides holiday homes on the Isle of Bute for children suffering from cancer or a cancer related disease, where the entire family can come together, spend quality family time together, make special irreplaceable memories and recharge their batteries for what may lie ahead.

Senga said: “The hospital charity done a lot for Kieran and while I couldn’t get home and stayed in CLIC Sargent house. We also used the adapted kitchen within the hospital which they funded and I taught Kieran cooking skills.

“Calum’s Cabins gave us a respite holiday in Rothsey which was great for Kieran as the cottage was all adapted for him so he could get all round the house. They give families a holiday to help bond with each other after long stays in hospital. Kieran really came alive and was so happy as he could go all around independently unlike our own house. He was so happy there.”

The Warrior Ball is at the Riverside Lodge on September 25 with entertainment from the Angel Star Band. Tickets are £50 and include a sparkling wine reception, a three-course meal followed by tea and coffee. There will also be raffles and an auction.

Senga is looking for local companies to donate prizes for the auction. If you can donate a prize call Senga on 07877016347.
