AYRSHIRE is being battered by life threatening gale force winds and has been slapped with a weather warning.

The Met Office issued a yellow weather alert after predicting strong winds would cause travel disruption and possible injuries.

The weather experts have placed the warning on the west of Scotland which will hit Ardrossan, Irvine, and Ayr as well as surrounding areas.

Residents are being warned to prepare for 'damage to buildings', such as tiles blown from roofs.

There is also a slight chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage.

Travel services could also be cancelled including trains and ferry timetables.

The Met Office said: “A spell of very strong winds for western parts of Scotland during Monday night could potentially cause travel disruption.

“There is a small chance of injuries and danger to life as there could be flying debris.

“There is a small chance that injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties.”
