LEGENDARY camp Scottish comedian Craig Hill is enjoying a “coming of age” as he celebrates his 21st tour.

And for the second year running, he will be pitching up at the Gaiety Theatre in Ayr on Saturday, March 28.

The prospect excites pink-kilted Craig, who is hugely impressed with the work which has been done at the Carrick Street venue since it was re-opened.

“It’s such a great traditional theatre and everyone has done a great job of restoring it. I know so many famous people have performed there. Oor Wullie was on there a few weeks ago, I heard “It’s good to know that another Wullie has been there before me!”

“You can expect some local references and some of the audience will be wound up, but in a nice way. I may even recite some Burns poetry. I will see how things go,” he said.

Craig will present a newish character Mad Donna, a Scottish version of the Queen of pop. He said: “Madonna was a bit off key at the Eurovision and I will be a Glasgow-type character called Mad Donna, who tries to sell her songs. There will be another few surprises.”

Firmly established as one of Scotland’s best-loved comedians and hosts, Craig has sold out across 20 consecutive Edinburgh Festival Fringes.

A past winner of the Radio Forth Fringe Award, his extensive sell out UK and worldwide tours include annual comedy festival seasons in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.

He has performed at London’s Palladium, hosted a specially created alternative variety show Craig Hill’s Forbidden Vaudeville for Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber and was UK Ambassador for the inaugural Montreux Comedy Festival’s Joke Nation.

He won the recent UK series of Impossible Celebrities and has numerous BBC TV series to his name.

International TV credits include Australia’s Good News Week, hosting Sydney Comedy Festival’s Cracker Night gala. His performance at 2017’s Glastonbury is the stuff of legends and in 2018 he headlined the comedy at Holland’s Paaspop festival. Craig Hill, The Gaiety, Saturday, March 28, 7.30pm.
