A RESURRECTED anti-council group say the shock cancellation of Scottish Airshow was the ‘tipping point’ to their reforming.

Vote of No Confidence Against South Ayrshire Council has now been rekindled after its birth five years ago.

The group hope to inspire others to get involved and they plan to hold protests outside the council’s HQ against decisions made by a council they deem ‘unfit for purpose’.

Determined activist Wallace Kerr has teamed up with other disgruntled residents James Smith and James Cooper in a bid to make their voice heard.

The 68-year-old told the Advertiser: “We’ve got no faith in South Ayrshire Council. They have just put council tax up. Where is all this money going?”

We told how last week South Ayrshire Council pulled the plug on funding for the Scottish International Airshow, set to attract thousands to Ayr this year.

For Wallace, the news that a spectacle worth millions to the local economy was the catalyst to get back on the campaign trail.

He said: “The Airshow was the last straw, cancelling something and taking money away from the town is a disgrace.”

Spirited pensioner Wallace wants other residents to take a stand, as he says Ayr is ‘on its knees’.

He said: “We have just started it again. Once I get together with the other two admins, we are going to arrange a protest outside County Building.

“I’m not one for protesting, but when it comes to it I’ve got a good record. I won against the poll tax, I won against the bedroom tax.”

“I’m not happy. Some people just won’t fight against the council, but we will.”

A spokesperson for South Ayrshire Council said: “Residents can have their say in a range of ways, including through the consultation process, details of which can be found on our website www.south-ayrshire.gov.uk/consultations/.”
